The Whitewashing of Stepinac: Monster-Cardinal of Croatia

The_Whitewashing_of_Stepinac, PDF format

During his visit to Croatia in June this year, the pope of Rome, Benedict XVI, prayed at the tomb of Alojzije Stepinac, a Croatian Roman Catholic cardinal who was archbishop of Zagreb from 1937 to 1960. And he encouraged Croatian Roman Catholics to look to Stepinac, who has been declared “Blessed” by the Papacy, as a model “of apostolic zeal and Christian fortitude.”

At first glance, most would see nothing remarkable, and certainly nothing sinister, in this. But they would be very, very mistaken. Who was this man, Stepinac?

The Whitewashed Version
According to no less a Roman Catholic authority than the Roman pontiff himself, Stepinac defied Hitler during World War Two to save Jews from the Nazis, and then when Croatia became part of Yugoslavia, and thus Communist under Josip Tito, he was persecuted by the Communists and even died a martyr. Here are the words of Benedict: Stepinac, he said, was “a fearless pastor and an example of apostolic zeal and Christian fortitude, whose heroic life continues today to illuminate the faithful of the dioceses of Croatia, sustaining the faith and life of the Church in this land.” He went on: “The merits of this unforgettable bishop are derived essentially from his faith. In his life, he always had his gaze fixed on Jesus, to whom he was always conformed, to the point of becoming a living image of Christ, and of Christ suffering. Precisely because of his strong Christian conscience, he knew how to resist every form of totalitarianism, becoming, in a time of Nazi and Fascist dictatorship, a defender of the Jews, the Orthodox and of all the persecuted, and then, in the age of communism, an advocate for his own faithful, especially for the many persecuted and murdered priests.”
Heaping praise upon praise, Benedict added: “Christian martyrdom is in fact the highest measure of holiness…. Blessed Alojzije Stepinac responded with his priesthood, with the episcopate, with the sacrifice of his life: a unique ‘yes’ united to that of Christ. His martyrdom signals the culmination of the violence perpetrated against the Church during the terrible period of communist persecution.”

So much for the spin. Now for the grim and terrible truth.

The Croatian Ustashi Massacre of Serbs During World War Two
It is astounding how adept the Papacy is at re-writing history, to make the evil appear good and the good, evil (Isa. 5:20). Over and over again, through the centuries, Rome has made “saints” out of the vilest of men, and held them up to the Roman Catholic faithful as models to emulate, after first whitewashing them so well that very few are able to discern the filth beneath the whitewash. This is eminently so in the case of this man, Stepinac. The Second World War is now 66 years in the past; Rome has had many decades in which to whitewash its monsters from that era. And new generations, indoctrinated and brainwashed, make heroes out of the monsters of yesteryear. It has ever been thus, and ever will be in this fallen world. We see it with supposed political “heroes”, men who deserve no praise or adulation considering their wicked lives and yet upon whom the world heaps honours as the truth is whitewashed over: Gorbachev and Mandela are two modern examples. And we see it with supposed religious “heroes” as well: some modern examples being men such as John XXIII, John Paul II, and Desmond Tutu. Sometimes, those who re-write history don’t even see the need to wait till men are dead anymore, such is the shortness of memory and ignorance of history of so many today.

Before we look at Stepinac himself, a short history lesson is essential. Let us go back to World War Two. Not all that long ago that terrible world tragedy was enacted, and yet how quickly the true facts are forgotten by the older generations, and how comprehensively those facts have been hidden from the younger generations.
Croatia during World War Two was a fanatical Roman Catholic state, allied to Nazi Germany. Ante Pavelic was the leader of the Ustashi, a fanatical and sadistic Croatian terrorist organisation. When Yugoslavia was destroyed by Hitler and Mussolini in 1941, Pavelic and the Ustashi were brought in to rule the new state of Croatia. Croatians were predominantly Roman Catholic by religion, and the creation of this state enabled a bloodthirsty Roman Catholic leadership to mercilessly persecute unto death those who were not Roman Catholic by religion: specifically the Serbs who lived in Croatia and were Eastern Orthodox by religion, but also Jews and Gypsies. And in what was the most horrifying religious massacre of World War Two, at least 700 000 Orthodox Serbs were brutally massacred by Roman Catholic Croats, spurred on by their priests, bishops and archbishops. In fact, in many cases Romish priests actually participated in the terrible slaughters. The choice given to the Serbs was simple: convert to Roman Catholicism, or die.
It is all thoroughly documented, and it makes horrifying reading. Here are the words of historian Edmond Paris: “The greatest genocide during World War Two, in proportion to a nation’s population, took place, not in Nazi Germany but in the Nazi-created puppet state of Croatia. There, in the years 1941-1945, some 750,000 Serbs, 60,000 Jews and 26,000 Gypsies – men, women and children – perished in a gigantic holocaust.” And: “It would be difficult to find a parallel of such ferocious persecution in all history.” And historian Avro Manhattan wrote: “During the existence of Croatia as an independent Catholic State, over 700,000 men, women and children perished. Many were executed, tortured, died of starvation, buried alive, or were burned to death. Hundreds were forced to become Catholic. Catholic padres ran concentration camps; Catholic priests were officers of the military corps which committed such atrocities.”
It was a massive attempt at racial and religious ethnic cleansing, and at the total annihilation not only of a people (the Serbs) but of their religion (Orthodoxy). It was so gruesome, in fact, that at times it even horrified the Nazis themselves! The evidence is far too overwhelming to include in this brief article, but the truth, as horrifying as it is, is that the Roman Catholic Croatian killers were egged on by their Roman Catholic priests, and very often those same priests joined in the killing. “Not only,” wrote Paris in another work, “was the extermination [of Serbs and Jews]… organized as an institution of the Croatian State, under the approving eye of the many members of the Catholic clergy who sat in the Ustashi parliament [including Stepinac the archbishop, as shall be seen!], but from their pulpits priests encouraged and gave their blessing to the murderers. There were monks, Franciscans and Jesuits, who led these assassins and exhorted them to murder, brandishing the cross in one hand and the ‘mauser’ or cut-throat’s knife in the other.”

The massacres were so satanically gruesome that it is difficult even to write of them. Men, women and children were slaughtered in a thousand diabolical ways. The Ustashi cut throats; they hacked people to pieces; they impaled babies; they buried people alive in mass graves; they crucified others; they burned still others alive, even locking them in their own houses and setting the houses alight. Town streets and rivers were at times red with human blood, and choked with mutilated corpses. One Ustashi proudly wore a necklace made out of human tongues and eyes. Pavelic was once sent a “gift” from his faithful Ustashis – twenty kilograms of human eyes. An 81-year-old Serbian Orthodox priest was taken by the Ustashis, who shod his feet like a horse and made him walk until he collapsed, and then they lit a charcoal fire on his bared breast.

The surface cannot even be scratched here in telling of the horrors of Croatian Roman Catholic savagery. But it is a part of history with which every true Christian should become very familiar, for it is a revelation of the fact that the Great Whore of God’s prophetic Word (Rev. 17), the Roman Catholic institution, is precisely the same in modern times as it ever was in times gone by. It massacres those who disagree with it whenever it has the power to do so. What occurred during the Inquisition, what occurred during the massacre of St Bartholomew’s Day in France, what occurred over and over when the Waldenses were massacred through the centuries, has not been relegated to ancient history. Rome’s own boast is that she never changes; that she is always the same. And so she is. Seven decades ago, she was instigating the awful slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people in Croatia.

Stepinac: Pro-Nazi Supporter of the Murderous Ustashi
And now back to Stepinac. Was this man, so lauded by the present pope of Rome, really and truly the wonderful, great, holy man he is now made out to be? Oh, far from it! Far, far from it! This man, far from being one who breathed out holiness, in truth breathed out slaughter. This Stepinac was an evil monster. What you are about to read is just the tip of the iceberg of the damning documentation about him.
Yes, Stepinac may have been anti-Communist; but he was fanatically pro-Nazi. Those World War Two times were prior to the Vatican coming out in support of Communism. This it only did after the war was over, Nazism was defeated, and it had become clear that Communism was marching across the world. Then it was, after the anti-Communist pope, Pius XII, died, and the pro-Communist pope, John XXIII, came to power, that the Vatican began to form its alliance with Communism. But before that, the Vatican saw in Nazism its hopes for the future. It saw in Hitler, Franco and Mussolini three great “champions of the faith”, who would be used to create a Roman Catholic world.
And in Croatia, Rome had Stepinac, the rabid pro-Nazi archbishop, a man who said, “Hitler is an envoy of God.” When Ante Pavelic entered Zagreb on the 13th April 1941, wearing a Fascist black shirt, Stepinac the very next day congratulated him; and during the banquet at the archbishopric, “black shirts and ecclesiastical robes fraternally mingled. They, each in turn, gave toasts brimming with cordiality, and during the dessert, flash bulbs photographed the edifying picture of His Grace [Stepinac] reigning among the terrorists”. And it was Stepinac who announced with much joy the establishment of the state of Croatia from the pulpit of the Zagreb Cathedral. “While Ante Pavelic was transforming Croatia with a mailed fist, his religious equivalent, Archbishop Stepinac, facilitated the revolution by a timely nationwide mobilization of the whole of the Catholic Church. No opportunity was allowed to pass without Stepinac openly singing the praises of, or sprinkling with oral or holy-water blessings, the new Catholic Croatia, her great Leader Pavelic, the Duce, and the great Fuehrer.”

On the 27th April 1941 the official Roman Catholic paper, Nedelja, which Stepinac controlled, stated: “God, who directs the destiny of nations and controls the hearts of kings, has given us Ante Pavelic and moved the leader of a friendly and allied people, Adolf Hitler, to use his victorious troops to disperse our oppressors and enable us to create an Independent State of Croatia. Glory be to God, our gratitude to Adolf Hitler, and infinite loyalty to our Poglavnik, Ante Pavelic.”
And the very next day, the 28th April 1941, Stepinac, as archbishop, issued a “pastoral letter”, calling on all Roman Catholic priests to defend and improve the state of Croatia. It was nothing less than a political directive to all priests, and they were bound to obey. They enthusiastically supported the Ustashi, and helped to carry out its racial and religious terror campaign, with the blessing of Stepinac. Croatia was viewed as a Roman Catholic state, and the Ustashi were given full Roman Catholic support.

By June 1941, Pavelic already had the blood of 180 000 Serbs and Jews on his hands, and that of over 100 Serbian Orthodox priests and members of religious organisations. And yet when, on the 26th of that month, Pavelic gave an audience to the Roman Catholic episcopacy, Stepinac preached a sermon in which he said that “as legitimate representatives of the Church of God in the Independent State of Croatia, of which you [Pavelic] are the Head, we utter our deference with our whole hearts, and promise our sincere and loyal collaboration for the brightest of futures for our fatherland.” Just two days later, the great Serbian Orthodox cathedral in Bihac was blown up with dynamite, and 2000 Serbs and Jews were killed in the town and its surroundings.
In addition, Stepinac fully supported the Ustashis’ new law on religious conversions when it was brought in. This law made forced membership of Roman Catholicism legal. In November 1941 he sanctioned the forcible conversion of Orthodox Serbs to Roman Catholicism. And a committee was established to promote the policy of forcible conversions. Stepinac, the archbishop of Zagreb, was one of the three committee members.
Stepinac knew exactly what was going on throughout Croatia: the tortures, the massacres. After all, in addition to being Romish archbishop of Zagreb, he was made a Member of the Ustashi Parliament, wore Ustashi decorations, and attended all the official Ustashi meetings! Even in his own city of Zagreb, where he lived, the Serbian Orthodox bishop, Dositej, was beaten and tortured so badly that he went insane. There is no way Stepinac did not know of this. He praised Pavelic, and the Ustashi press, in turn, praised him. Indeed, it was rightly pointed out that Ante Pavelic had every reason to view Stepinac as a gift sent to his Croatia from the Roman Catholic god.

Stepinac with military leaders.

In 1942 Stepinac, in addition to being the highest religious authority in Croatia, was made Supreme Military Apostolic Vicar of the Ustashi Army. He now wielded enormous power. And all priests attached to the Ustashi units were now directly under him. These were the very priests who spurred the soldiers on in their massacres, or participated in the massacres themselves. At any point, if Stepinac was truly against the massacres, he could have punished the murderous priests under him, by removing them from the priesthood; but this was never done. Not once.
And it must never be forgotten that just as the entire Croatian priesthood was under Stepinac, Stepinac himself was under the Vatican. He could not act without Vatican approval. Therefore, all that he did, he did as the servant of the Vatican and of the war pope, Pius XII. Pius knew exactly what was happening in Croatia, and the massacres and forced conversions of the Orthodox Serbs were officially approved by him! Not only did Pius have his own personal representative in Croatia, but Stepinac himself visited Pius twice, and supplied him with figures of the forcible conversions! On the 8th May 1944, Stepinac, in an official document, informed the Roman pope that “244,000 Orthodox Serbs” had been “converted to the Church of God.”

An attempt was made to “prove” that in fact, Stepinac had taken a stand against the atrocities committed by the Ustashis. But the truth is that it was only when it became clear, at the end of 1943, that Nazism would lose the war, that Stepinac spoke a little in criticism of Nazism; and it was only when his own brother was shot by the Ustashi after being accused of helping the partisans, that he protested against the act. That is all.
An attempt was made to show that Stepinac had risked his life to defend Serbs and Jews; but this was simply not true. What he did do was ascribe to the Chetniks and partisans the very atrocities committed by the Ustashis against the Serbs, representing these crimes as being against the “Croatian people”. This was a blatant lie, and he knew it. But this documentation was sent to the foreign press, and doubtless went a long way in hiding the true nature of this man’s complicity in the Ustashi massacres.
In a sermon given on the 31st October 1943, Stepinac – for the first and only time – spoke of the “crimes” committed in Croatia. But even in this solitary sermon, the criticism was extremely mild; plus, he stated that he did not wish to be “the political instrument of anyone”, and that he could not be held responsible “for some of the dare-devil fanatics in the ecclesiastical ranks.” How true the comment of historian Paris on this: “we find it completely absurd. Condemning atrocious crimes which took place before his very eyes, and under a religious pretext, seemed to the Archbishop like serving as a ‘political instrument.’… Like Pontius Pilate, in the days of old, he refused to do anything about it. But the most incredible of all was his allusion to the priests and the Franciscan slaughterers who preached in favor of the massacres, and whom he called ‘dare-devil fanatics.’… he considered that their acts did not, in the least, involve the responsibility of the first prelate of Croatia [himself]. It was quite clear that the Archbishop of Zagreb, while trying to justify his attitude, acknowledged the fact that he had never ‘sounded the alarm’ and that he never openly condemned the crimes.”
Furthermore: “He states in it [his sermon] ‘that the church does not agree with the injustices committed against the Jews and the Serbs,’ regardless of the fact that those were not just ‘mere injustices,’ but acts of genocide, plunder, torture, extermination by means of sword and fire, and in a single word, a pogrom organized by the state and perpetrated by the state and by the Church. While there is not a single word more about the Jews, he spoke further about the Serbs, giving some sort of a story in connection with them, by means of which he actually proved his anti-Christian hatred and incomprehensible lethargy toward the dreadful bloodshed which took place before his eyes, in which children and women, the most innocent among them, suffered most. He went on looking at those terrors of bloodshed for over two years, without a word of reproof, and only in 1943, thirty-one months later, he explained that the reason he did not do anything about it was because he did not want to become ‘anybody’s political instrument.’ What cynicism from a High Ecclesiastic Prelate! Whose ‘political’ instrument would he have been if he had raised his voice against the slaughter of the innocent?”

Stepinac Assists the Ustashis After the Ustashi Regime Ends
As Nazism and Fascism began to crumble in Europe, the Yugoslav army swiftly advanced into Croatia, and the city of Zagreb was liberated from the Ustashis. Pavelic, the political leader, with the full consent of Stepinac, the archbishop, ordered that 36 chests of plundered gold and valuables and about two truckloads of silver be buried in a Franciscan monastery. The gold consisted of rings, other jewellery, watches, and even gold dentures and fillings which had been ripped out of Serbian mouths by the Ustashi who massacred them! They were later discovered at the archbishopric, as well as in the basements of various Roman Catholic church buildings. Stepinac also offered refuge in his archbishopric to Ustashi murderers who were being looked for by the police. He was also entrusted by Pavelic with the most important official documents.
Pavelic and the Ustashi then fled – but first, Pavelic had a secret meeting with Stepinac in his palace, at which the archbishop gave Pavelic his blessing for all he had done for Croatia and Roman Catholicism.

Pavelic was captured in Austria, and while his official trial was being prepared, it was brought to an abrupt halt by a “mysterious intervention”, and he was released. The pope, Pius XII, through Stepinac, had organised his release – and Pavelic found refuge in Vatican City itself!
Meanwhile, in Croatia, Stepinac, with the blessing of Pius XII, and in conjunction with other Croatian bishops, incited the Ustashis to guerilla warfare against the new, Communist government of Yugoslavia. In a “pastoral letter”, he essentially called on the people of Croatia to support the Ustashis in their attempt to overthrow the government. And he urged his priests to go forth and encourage the underground Ustashi resistance movement in their “holy work”.
And it was this resistance of Stepinac to Communism that the present pope, Benedict XVI, was so forward to praise when he encouraged today’s Roman Catholic Croats to look to Stepinac as a model of “apostolic zeal and Christian fortitude”! Benedict ignored Stepinac’s terrible guilt for the massacres that occurred under the pro-Nazi Ustashis against the Orthodox Serbs and Jews during World War Two, and instead focused on his supposedly “heroic” resistance to the Communist government of Yugoslavia which took over Croatia after the war. In so doing, Benedict showed that he was just as adept at re-writing history as so many of his papal forbears: Stepinac, the Croatian religious monster of World War Two, has been metamorphosed into a hero, a great and godly Roman Catholic, who took on the might of the Communists after the war. What he did during the war, however – ah, no need to bring that up, as far as Benedict was concerned.

Stepinac’s Trial, Imprisonment…and Global Makeover
The Yugoslav government was in fact well aware of what Stepinac was up to. The War Crimes Commission produced its evidence concerning Stepinac’s involvement in the war to the Yugoslavian government; and on the 18th September 1946 Stepinac was arrested. Great care was taken that the trial would be fair, in view of the sensitive nature of having arrested such a high-profile religious figure, and the government ensured that all the officials at the trial were Croatian Roman Catholics. And on the 11th October 1946, this court, comprised of Croatian Romanists, sentenced Stepinac, the Croatian archbishop, to sixteen years in prison for his crimes. He was found guilty of having incited the Roman Catholic priesthood to collaborate with the Ustashis, of having served the Ustashi cause by provoking racial hatred, and of other crimes.
The Vatican expressed shock and horror, as did the Roman Catholic hierarchy the world over, and Pius XII ordered that all who took part in the trial be excommunicated. “The Pope set in motion the vast machinery of Catholic propaganda, which in no time flooded the world with such mountainous distortions and such plain dishonesty as to shame the most deceitful of all the devils in hell. Overnight Stepinac, the authoritarian leader, the political plotter, the politician, the promoter of the forcible conversions, the tolerator and indirect instigator of the Ustashi massacres, was made to appear as Stepinac the defender of true democracy, the most holy Archbishop, the courageous champion of religious freedom, the persecuted and the martyr. Millions accepted the Catholic version.” Note that this metamorphosis of the monster began in 1946; and yet note how familiar it sounds! It sounds so very like the recent praise heaped on Stepinac by the present incumbent of the Vatican throne, Benedict XVI. Nothing, after all, has changed. The Vatican still continues to whitewash Stepinac all these decades later.
According to the propaganda disseminated by Rome, Stepinac was imprisoned merely because of his anti-Communist activities. This was a blatant lie. He was tried and imprisoned for his shocking collaboration with the Ustashis and the Nazis.
“The lay Press [exalted] Stepinac as the champion of Christianity fighting the powers of darkness. Religious and political leaders joined in the chorus. Foreign Offices, heads of States, and, indeed, whole Governments of Catholic and non-Catholic lands sent official protests against ‘such unheard-of religious persecution’…. A worldwide movement was set up to induce the United Nations to come to the rescue of a man who had defended all the religious and civil liberties for which the United Nations was said to stand.” When an institution has such unlimited resources as the Vatican, it does not take much to give a monster a facelift, and to re-write history so that almost no one knows the real truth anymore.
How true these words of Edmond Paris: “The twentieth century… was doomed to witness in Europe, in the name of racial purity and religion such a genocide as the past has never known, in which the Orthodox Serbs in Croatia barely escaped complete annihilation. Yet this gigantic holocaust… has given rise to the most fantastic stories, accompanied by an intense propaganda that still continues: a tireless effort to ‘cleanse’ the guilty of any sense of responsibility. All kinds of printed matter, written under the guise of the ‘greatest objectivity,’ and published largely by the Croatian and Vatican printing presses, is being circulated throughout the world.”

Pius XII, Benedict XVI: Both Admirers of Stepinac and Approvers of His Wickedness
In 1951-2 Yugoslavia partially freed Stepinac, and in 1953 Pius XII made him a cardinal. And take very special note of the words used by the pro-Nazi war pope, Pius XII, when he conferred this honour on Stepinac:
“Although absent we embrace him with fatherly love – and we strongly desire that everyone know that when we decided to decorate him with the nobility of the Roman purple, we had nothing else in mind save to reward in a manner befitting his deserving merits… [for he] is an example of apostolic zeal and of Christian fortitude.” (Italics added).
Wait a second! Aren’t those the exact words used by the present pope, Benedict XVI, when describing Stepinac 58 years later? Indeed they are! And they reveal, as nothing else could, just how fully Benedict XVI supports even the use of massacres to achieve the goal of “converting” people to Roman Catholicism, if need be! For it is impossible to believe for one second that Benedict does not know exactly how Stepinac went about his work in World War Two. The present pope of Rome knows – and clearly approves!

And why was he able to say such a thing to Croatians during his 2011 visit? For the simple reason that Stepinac’s vision for Croatia is once again, after all these decades, being realised! For Yugoslavia is no more, and Croatia is once again an independent Roman Catholic state. The Vatican, which lost this prize at the end of World War Two, finally got what it wanted decades later, after yet another terrible war in that part of Europe, just a few years ago – a war in which, this time around, Serbs were massacring Croats in retaliation for what Croats had done to Serbs during the Second World War. And thus Benedict could call on Roman Catholics in Croatia to look to Stepinac as a great hero and “martyr for Christ” – even though history records, with overwhelming evidence, that he was anything but.

Rome’s “Evangelization” Strategy Today: Ecumenism, Not Annihilation…for Now
Benedict, of course, knows that times have changed. In his address to the people of Croatia, he also said this: “Today too, the Church in Croatia is called to be united, to meet the challenges of a changed social context, identifying with missionary fervor new ways of evangelization”. Well, yes – Croatia in 2011 is not a place where Roman Catholic “evangelization” can be practiced as it was in the days of Stepinac – an “evangelization” by murder and massacre. That “old” method of “evangelization” will not work in Croatia today. Today, Rome uses a new tactic: ecumenism and interfaith. Benedict explained this when he then called on the bishops of Croatia to “work in fruitful co-operation among yourselves and in communion with the Successor of Peter”, and to “strive for reconciliation among separated Christians and between Christians and Muslims, following the footsteps of Christ who is our peace.” Of course, Stepinac was working “in fruitful co-operation with” the pope of Rome of his day too: Pius XII. But times have changed – at least for now. Rome would very willingly again use the tactics of Stepinac if the time was right for them; this is evident from Benedict’s words of praise for Stepinac himself. Clearly the Papacy has no problem with Stepinac’s “evangelization” techniques. But the time is not right. Today is a time when the Papacy uses the tactic of “reconciliation”. In World War Two the Eastern Orthodox Serbs were called heretics and were massacred if they did not convert to Rome. Today they are called “separated Christians”, just as all Protestants are as well. Such a nicer-sounding term, but actually it makes no difference. The goal of the Papacy is ever the same: to conquer the world. For now it suits its purposes for the Great Whore on the seven-hilled city (Rev. 17) to wipe the blood off her lips and wear a smile on her face towards those she hates in reality. Like the harlot she is, she uses different tactics to seduce. But be not deceived! She is still the Great Whore, drunken with blood, ever ready to whip out the knife, the sword, the gun, or any other instrument of death and use it again…if the time is right. Never forget: World War Two was not in the Dark Ages, it was not in the nineteenth century, it was just the other day, comparatively speaking. It was within the lifetime of some still living.

Stepinac’s Death and the Road to “Sainthood”
Stepinac died on the 10th February 1960. Throughout the Roman Catholic world, there was an orchestrated outburst of sorrow that he had died, and praise for his life; and he was interred in Zagreb Cathedral. Historian Edmond Paris, writing decades ago, stated that Stepinac “will, hereafter, wear a halo and be canonized.” His prediction is indeed coming to pass, for Stepinac has been declared “Blessed” by the Vatican, and that is part of the process towards eventual canonization – “sainthood” according to Rome.

The Re-Writing of History
In the light of all this evidence, that the Vatican of Benedict XVI is able to so brazenly continue to promote the lie that Alojzije Stepinac was a model “of apostolic zeal and Christian fortitude”, a “fearless pastor” who defied Hitler to save Jews and died a martyr because of his opposition to Communism, who “always had his gaze fixed on Jesus, to whom he was always conformed, to the point of becoming a living image of Christ, and of Christ suffering”, “a defender of the Jews, the Orthodox and of all the persecuted”, reveals the abysmal ignorance of history that is such a characteristic of the world we live in today. In the face of all the documentation, the Papacy has been able to re-cast this evil, satanically-inspired monster as a wonderful, holy man of God! And the world has bought this dreadful lie. Not just the Roman Catholic world, let it be noted – it is to be expected that Roman Catholics worldwide would believe the lies spouted by their pope – but pretty much the whole world. Incredibly, the world bought this lie soon after World War Two ended and while Stepinac was still alive; and nothing has changed since then.
Is it, then, any wonder that other men, so undeserving of the world’s praise, have received similar make-overs, so as to be presented to the world as good men when the very opposite is true? No, it is no wonder at all. History can so easily be re-written. Today the world has bought the lie that the likes of Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, John Paul II, and so many others were (and are) great and good men, examples for the world to follow of moderation, tolerance, kindness, charity, self-restraint, and a host of other virtues. The example of Alojzije Stepinac shows what can be done, within just a very few short years of intense propaganda.

Roman Catholicism: Ever the Same
The example of Stepinac, also, shows the true nature of Roman Catholicism, this religio-political machine that dares to usurp the name of “Christ’s only true Church.” Can that be even a Church of Christ, let alone the Church of Christ, which gives its blessing to the sadistic massacres of over 700 000 people just because they are of a different religion? When two asked the Lord Jesus if they should call down fire from heaven to consume a village which rejected Him, He rebuked them, saying, “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them” (Lk. 9:54-56). The Papacy in Croatia destroyed men’s lives in ways so shocking they almost defy belief. And remember always – the holocaust of Serbs in Croatia was not an aberration in an otherwise impeccable record of a “Church” that has always been holy and pure. Far from it: what happened in Croatia in World War Two was merely what the so-called “Church” of Rome has done, over and over again, throughout its long history. It has always waged war, shed blood, practiced cruel tortures, burned men alive, killed them with the sword and in countless other ways. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the massacres of the Waldenses, the Huguenots, the English Protestant martyrs – these are just some of Rome’s victims. Far from being an aberration, the holocaust in Croatia was simply Romanism acting once again as it always has. Truly, truly, it will one day be known to the world, that “in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth” (Rev. 18:24).
